Hi All,   Here's a photo of my '69 280SL.   As far as the bagel thing;  I used to own a bagel shop and am an eye doctor, hence the name Docbagel!

Hi Doc Bagel.  Love that color gray.  It's seems so period correct for the car (as compared to the metallic gray version that I think is called Anthracite and is much more of a modern color.)

I'm in PA too so maybe I will see your car on the road one of these days if you are anywhere near the central part of the state (Harrisburg area).

Nice color and options. I always wondered which cars received the larger, Aluminum bumper over riders, rather than the chrome ones. I have seen this style enough to say that they were "legit". Maybe these cars were ordered for the European/ World market and retrofitted in the 60 and 70s by parts from an after market source? Does anyone know for sure as this is one of those rare originality questions I can't answer with anything concrete....

Personally, I "believe" these "Aluminum bumper over riders" are non-factory
... or, with other words: aftermarket.

I believe that I read that the "over-riders" were factory installed, as were the lights on the front and rear quarter panels, in response to the new safety standards for vehicles sold in the U.S. I don't accurately recall when those standards actually changed, but I beileve it was 1968.

They are discussing two different sizes of bumper "over-riders".
