On Sat Morning at Essen I had a brief chance to talk to Joachim Stickel about his Tweety-yellow Pagoda.
He was very pleasant and kindly willing to answer my requests.
This is (as you have already realised) a quite early 230 SL with VIN 000123.
The car was originally not Tweety-yellow or something like that. However, the car had a special paint code anyway (copper like or so), Joachim Stickel told me.
The car was completely scrap and was basically built up to new from nothing. So, that should be an excuse for many things you personally dislike on this one.
J. Stickel restored and "repainted" the car as a sort of "eye catcher". He is basically aware that it will not sell for € 150 K but as often with top class restoration shops (Joachim Stickel
is, see
www.pagoden-center.de; there is an English access as well) these "prices" are a signal for the future.... I think.
Generally Pagodas are a bit more expensive in Europe than in the US and consider please, motorinvestments.com or comparable top class shops in the US also offer (and obviously sell) their best ones in the $$ 100'000 region and beyond.
