Chassis/Firewall Intersection Detail

Hi

I am repairing a rusted box section in the firewall above the main frame rail, and immediately next (outside) to the fresh air vent cavity.   Looking forward from the passenger floor, there are 2 rectancular openings, and what appears to be the remains of a bracket,   Vehicle is a 230SL 1964

Any information as to how the firewall interects/joins the main frame would be appreciated.   I am not sure if the 2 rectangular openings should be covered, and whether there should be a "L" or other bracket to re-inforce the section.

I have a sketch (plan view, and looking from passenger floor) which I can email to anyone if they could assist (having problems attaching sketch to this post).

Congrats - the attachment worked, but I cannot figure out where these holes could be.
I assume you have a LHD car, or is it a RHD?
Attached are 3 photos from a 1966 230SL (LHD), perhaps they might help you locating your rectangular openings or the L-bracket.

Section in question is immediately in front of footwell, just under where the lower dashboard frame ends (as per blue arrow on attached marked up photo, but on the frontside of the footwell wall).    What is the structure between  engine bay firewall side and inside of passenger floor/footwell, and also between the engine bay firewall side and the front end of the intrument/dashboard etc framework

The car is 1964 right hand drive, manual transmission.   Setch is of left hand side of vehicle.
