Not sure how I missed this during the last 7 years with this car, but I just discovered I have code 256 (Limited slip differential)  Anyone have any details on the LSD unit, how it works, rebuilds, etc?  Thanks, Mark

Hello Mark,

You must use the special MB diff oil in these units. There are internal clutches plates which can wear with time. Try changing the fluid first.

I have one in my car. You can use synthetic gear oil in it. You may not have one though. Easy test is to spin your tires on some grassy area and see if both wheels leave marks behind.

To see if your car retains the original LSD check for a metal plated attached to the Diff. housing with instructions to only use special oil.

The metal tag is there, bolted to the side of the diff.  Just bought the limited slip diff oil from Mercedes, I'll see if it makes any difference. Thanks, Mark
