Top Tip

If haring down the highway at an ambient temperature in the high 30s (Celsius) store all scented candles from Fragonard in Grasse upright and, preferably, somewhere far cooler than the trunk of your pagoda

Candles melted and I now have a trunk that has been wax protected in a nice vanilla smell! Tips on removal greatly appreciated!

400 hot miles today from Grasse to the Umbrian hills between Orvieto and Amelia

Hi Tosh--

Two solutions--1. Ice it down and pick off the hardened wax, or 2. Similar to one, wait until winter and pick off the hardened wax.

With the wax gone, the aroma will go.

Not sure if this would help in a trunk, but to remove wax from clothing, you can put paper towels (or something equally absorbent) on either side, and then gently heat with an iron. The wax will melt and be absorbed into the paper. Would need to be careful of wiring or other meltable stuff in the trunk.

If a big relatively smooth surface, I would think the ice approach would be a good one

You might even try to put some crushed ice in a garbage bag before spreading it around to keep the floor of the trunk from getting wet.  Alternatively, use some dry ice.  I don't know what the dry ice would do to the trunk floor paint.

i have used a damp towel and an iron to get wax out of my carpet. this could work but may take much longer than a few drips on the carpet.

Thank you for the tips: fortunately, the worst of it is under where the spare goes: travelling without it as we needed trunk room. I wiped up most of it while it was still liquid and high 30s: I didn't address the stuff under the kinder seat though: stored them there initially as a surprise gift for the beloved but the surprise came early with random wafts of vanilla on the highway south. The candles were abandoned in Umbria. I am sure I can fleabay replacements

12 hours on the go today but did stop for a 2 hour break in Maranello ( museum is really poor but lunch was ok) and so 10 hours to do 570 miles (Inc fuel etc stops and an hour on really twisty roads in Italy) and I find myself in at a hotel known to European event 2010 folk in Obernai. Dinner done, bed calling and Calais tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Aaaaand home

1500 miles in three days
Grasse - Umbria (southbound)
Umbria - Obernai (northbound)
Obernai - London

2200 overall. Car ran like a dream and sat for hour after hour at ~80mph/130kph. Not done the fuel consmption yet though or checked the oil (didn't even open the hood :D). A couple of minor niggles to address but they are cosmetic (looseing screw on softtop frame/frame out of alignment etc).

None whatsoever - which given we went through the Pyrenees, Haut Languedoc, Haut Provence, Tuscany, Umbria, the Swiss alps and Alsace is something of a miss!

However, I do have proof of how environmentally unfriendly these cars are: especially if you are a bug in the environment of the car....

Just back myself from euro delivery of an e-  drove from stutt to lindau to laussanne- parma-milan- zurich   phenomenal to drive through st bernard (going south) and st goddard (going north) passes  Quite surprised at the cost of autostada tolls and st bernard tunnel!

I bought a tolltag for the French autoroutes, a pre-pay carnet for the Swiss and paid cash in Italy: €50 from the border with France near Nice to Orvieto (80km north of Rome)

It's pricey - esp as gas is not cheap - but SOOOOO much quicker than the alternative when trying to cover large distances!

I have just found the UK version of the SANEF toll tag website and ordered my tag. Thank you. I am taking my 2CV from Edinburgh to Alpes Maritimes next weekend - on a trailer!

There were a few tin snails parked at Ferrari in Maranelli on Monday, which I thought was fantastic! ;D Good luck with the trip - strap it down!
