Sixteen Pagodas!
« on: May 24, 2004, 06:38:18 »
Richard Madison did a masterful job in arranging a VERY wonderful event.  There were 16 pagodas at West Point yesterday, all in very respectable shape, with a wide variety of colors and options.  Doug Kim is a fantastic resource and needs to be recognized for his efforts as one of the judges for the event.  He has an inexhaustable knowledge of these cars and I know I learned a tremdous amount from him.

It was nice to see faces to go along with the posts and I know all the participants will echo my accolades for Richard as well as the judges.

It was a fabulous event, well orchestrated by our own Richard Madison.  Doug Kim did a great job leading the judging efforts along with Mike Parlato.  The setting was spectacular on the grounds of the US Military Academy at West Point.  Sorry I missed the drive to Cold Springs-had to get my daughter back for an evening event.

It is always great to be around other enthusiasts that love our cars.  The passion that every one displays is inspirational.  I have picture I will post this evening.  If anyone has other pictures, please feel free to post.

Best,

Tom

Wow. Looks like an awesome time. Wish I could have gone.
But, my car is a beater - compared the mint Q cars in these pics. Will I get laughed out of the place, when I do finally show up to one of these gigs?

William:

Your Pagoda would have fit right in. The West Point announcement said, "We welcome 'not perfect' cars and 'works-in-Progress.' A driver can choose not to have a car judged."

The day was to enjoy our cars and the great location, no one came to show off a perfect example...in fact, the judges awarded a trophy for the  Best "Driver" Class car.

There were 16 cars there in varying condition. If my "Brown Jalopy"  was welcome, any car was welcome.

Hope to see you and your 280 SL at the next event.

Group:

Several participants mentioned an interest in the wind screen that reduces the air turbulence in the cock pit at speed.  Regrettably, my notes got lost on the trip home, but I remember that Edde (Eddeo) from NYC and Dave from West Chester, PA were the interested parties.  Here are several less expensive sources for wind screens that should work as well as mine:

For Tom with the newest ride at the event (beautiful and quite original Tobacco Brown), here is the web site for Leatherique that will help condition the leather and help with some of the fine cracks in the leather:

I just returned from my first W113 event at West Pont and wanted to say that this was really a first class event.  It was great seeing so many Pagodas at one place at one time. The group was so friendly and open and I surely learned a great deal.   Also, the organizers and judges, especially Richard, Douglas and Mike, deserve a great deal of credit for putting this special event together so flawlessly. Again, nice to meet you all and I look forward to  future events.
