Fall in Western PA
« on: October 07, 2011, 02:48:11 »
Well... I really wish I could be cruising along the Mosel, or taking in the sights in SF (John, have you taken your 280sl down Lombard??) or, better yet, on tour in the French Alps! However, a 100 mile jaunt around Western PA area will have to do on an absolutely outstanding day in Western Pennsylvania. Not too many left like this before the cold, rain, muck and snow. Ugh! Enjoy

Great pictures and your car is beautiful as is the scenery. Is the finish on your SL original? When My SL was about 6 months old I took a road trip from LA up to San Francisco and yes, went down Lombard. Have been back a few more times. Always a thrill to drive with a manual transmission on those famous hills.:-)
Hope the sun shines for a few more weeks so you can enjoy another top down ride.

John, thanks for the nice comments. I've been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in CA over the years but how cool it must be to have the opportunity to drIve one of our great cars along the Pacific Coast Hwy (would love to see some pics CA folks)!

The paint on my car is original and in great shape other than a handful of chips and dings (#+>% kids!)... Ok, maybe I was responsible for one or two of them : (

Hi Rick,
My SL still has it's original paint as well and I have been pretty lucky as far as paint chips go. I did have a small ”road rash” chip up front and I was amazed how well the touch up paint (050) I bought from MB matched! Kinda pricey ($10+tax for 12ml) but what isn't for these cars:-)
Again, thanks for posting pictures of your amazing original car.

John
BTW, years ago, I used to visit the Alison Park area often, just north of Pittsburgh. Beautiful country this time of year.

Rick,
Where did you take the pictures?  I was out yesterday also.  You should have called.

John, Allison Park is 15 min from where I live.  We're you visiting PPG?

Brad, visited Lake Arthur; only had a little bit of time to slip away but couldn't resist. Drove there - snapped a few pics - returned. Hopefully another time before the weather turns.

I used to have relatives that lived in Alison Park back in the early 70s. Haven't back in that neck of the woods since then.
