1964 230SL Radiator...

Hi all,

My main radiator has a flat top and is not the same as others I have seen albeit mostly on 250's and 280's. It is clearly not a very modern replacement and looked in the same condition as the rest of the engine bay before restoration and rebuild by a radiator specialist.

Have I got the wrong one ? (it fits fine).

Can't answer your radiator question, but I like what you've done with your oil filler cap.

Thanks Joe, It is a hood badge from another model (don't know which, got it at an autojumble) and it just happened to fit exactly on the flattened part of the oil cap.

Not original but if it fits and works...
Here's an original 1965 radiator, part number 113 500 04 03.

It sure fits but I wonder about whether or not it will deliver the same cooling amount, I guess I will have to watch the temp when we finally fire her up !

Where should they run on the temp gauge ?

Que. how did you get the parts(ie:radiator resv. fuel lines,etc.) to have that brass or gold color?

Hi Rocket, it is just passivate or cadmium plate (don't know which) but is very cheap if you prepare the parts yourself by media blasting. The flat round coolant expansion tanks are brass so I just sand blasted it and then spent a day or so with a drill mounted polishing kit - I wouldn't want to do it again and learned what a skilled and dirty job metal polishing is ! I think you could strip the tank yourself and have it polished professionally for very little cash. It probably offends the purists but I like the fact it is brass and you do not see brass on euroboxes nowadays !!

Hi Thelews _ Haven't had the car running yet so I can't venture an opinion although I have heard good things about the system from other users.
