You need to remove the door trim, which means removing the window winder, the covers around the door opening catch, the chrome to the rear of the door holding the door trim, the cover over the door locking mechanism, the screw under the arm rest, the chrome around the door catch mechanism, the chrome plate at the front of the door you mentioned, then jiggle the door trim up from the base and window clip holders and remove, then you can access the two nuts that afix the mirror to the door.
\And whilst you are in there, check that the window winding mechanism is ok, oil and ensure that the window sliders and the fitting that goes into it are still attached to the window. make sure that the drain holes are still clean and working, and ensure that you put back the plastic film moisture cover when closing it all back.
After you have done that you can have a beer.
