Where to purchase Floor panels
« on: November 27, 2011, 00:04:29 »
I just purchased a 1965 230SL ivory white with black interior. The car is the euro version and is in original condition but needs work. The car is currently in the body shop where they are beginning to do a ground up restoration. One of the first things that I noted is that the floor panels need to be replaced. The body shop owner offered me to make new ones but I would like to purchase the original or close to original ones.

So my questions for you are three:
Is it important to replace the floors with original floor panels? If so, where do I get them.

I am trying to find out more information about the car and was wondering who on the internet or else where can provide me with the history on the options this car came with when it rolled out of the factory back in 1965.

I will appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Mario

Hello Mario,
welcome, you came to the right place for you questions.
There are a number of ways to get the answers:
1. Click on the "Search" button above, type in "floor panels" and you get 3 pages with post that might interest you.
But the short answer for now is: K&K (http://www.kkmfg.com/index.php) they reproduce the panels for many years and many members here have installed them.
Of course, you can also buy them from the dealer for money.  ;)
Make sure, however, that your bodyshop is very familiar with these cars and how to do it.
2. Information about your car is provided by the "data card". If you don't have one then take a look here, it tells you what the card provides and how to get one:

Spend some time browsing the technical manual.
3. and finally, you can ask some of us in person, just come by at the brewery on December 17!
Here are the details: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=15540.0
Hope to see you there!

Hi Mario

The best place to get reproduction floor panels is K&K Manufacturing in Sparta Michigan.

For info on the car, check out the Technical Manual on this site.

For specific info on your car, you can request a data card from the MB classic center. Also, using the Technical Manual, you can interpret your car's info by determining the codes on your data plate.

Enjoy your new Pagoda!
