Where do I find the proper leather color?
« on: November 29, 2011, 00:17:08 »
Hello all,

Just got my data card from the MBZ Center and found out that my interior color is code 209, Creme 1060 leather.

The car is all original with only 76K miles. Has been in my family for over 44 years.

Unfortunately, my parents, did not seem to appreciate the car as much as I do. There are several door dings, well in excess of forty or more on both sides of the car.

The interior leather seats are all cracked and rotted. However, the rest of the interior is in above average shape. The car was in a garage all of its life, so even with neglect, several interior items have survived.

I have been working on the mechanical items for the last two months. Slowly getting ready to start the car up once again after sitting for a few years.

I would like to keep the car the same as it was delivered new. The exterior and hardtop is code 190 slate gray. The soft top is black.

My problem is the leather colors that I find from the vendors are limited. No on seems to have available the Creme 1060.

Can anyone tell me where I might find a Creme 1060 leather kit or hide? Or, do I need to think about redoing the interior in another color?

Any thoughts on the best way to go about rebuilding the seats?

Thanks for any and all help,

What year is your car?

I have a 1965 230 SL, with a color of vinyl that is NLA. The Mercedes color swatches did not have an equivalent leather - but when I looked in the Jaguar section, there was a perfect match. Try GAHH or German Auto Tops. Be prepared to cut a sample out and send it to them.

The car is a 1966, which is the year it was first registered in California.

The color of the exterior is actually code 190, Graphite Grey. That color was only available up through 1965. My car has a build date of October 1965.

The only other interior colors that I have found that were suggested combinations with my exterior are: Natural Leather and Light Natural. The only draw back to changing would be the loss of the other original interior pieces. The drivers door panel is rather worn. Everything else looks good including the carpet.

Like most cars that I have collected over the years, I prefer to keep them as original as possible. I am going to try and do the same with this car.

That is why I would like to just do the seats and possibly the door panels. Keeping all else original.

Your idea of cutting out a sample and matching it, maybe the best way to go.

Tom,
this company has a wide variety of leather colors, send them a small snippet perhaps they can match it.

Tom, I agree with ghenne in that you should check other makes.  To get the correct MBTex colour for my new seat covers I found it in a BMW colour swatch with GAHH.  They will send you samples of any colours you think are a match and then you can decide.
