Hello,
the basic structure of the order numbers ("Auftrags-Nr.", see section "e" of data card) says:
"The order number consists of eight digits, the first digit is the last digit of the year in which the order was placed, the next three digits identify the region, the next four digits are sequential by dealer/region/country and year"; see
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/DataCards.
The order number of my car is
22105xxx. It's a 280 SL, build Jan. 1971. From basic structure logic it should be ordered in 197
2, which is not possible, and ordered from Aachen/Germany (=
210).
Have there been any changes during the years 1970 or 1971? Maybe they left the first digit/order year if it was ordered in Germany? So it was ordered in Cologne/Köln=
221 which could fit to the delivery town Siegen, which is near Cologne.
