Just purchased
« on: June 07, 2012, 16:32:39 »
My wife finally gave in and let me purchase a local for sale from a guy who didnt find the need for the car anymore as he has a second home in Napa (must be nice).  Just getting into this lifestyle but I love it, and I love learning new things about this car.  Interesting thing, the car was restored in 1985, and I have all the paperwork and photos which is kinds of nice to see the process.  Having a great time so far, just need to replace the radio with a becker (on its way) and get rid of the awful alloy wheels (trying to desperately find a set of steel or aluminum wheels and hubcaps).  Anyway, just wanted to share some pics.

You have some 'unique' rear bumpers - looks like they are from a larger Benz.  :o

If you are into trying to keep the car as original as possible - these would be something to add to your list after the radio.   You actually might be able to sell these to help offset the correct bumper!

Unique chrome across the top bow too unless it's a 230 (I can't read the trunk emblem).

From the picture, it looks like your passenger window is not closing in the rubber channel.  If it's sitting proud and on top of the rubber, you ought be careful before you shatter the glass.

Is that a metallic red?

thanks, guys.  one improvement at a time...my wife already feels second rate, but yes the bumpers are sure to be replaced as well as looking into the windows.  The window, at the end of being put up, slides under the moulding.  To be quite honest, from what I can tell from my homework, both are the original windows, so the risk of shatter is very small.  The color as far as I can tell, is listed as 571 metallic mb red.

Thanks, Joe.  As much as I have to do it to get it "complete", there is nothing better than having the top down and driving around on a Sunday.  The car is a load of fun, and since purchasing in early May I've put almost 750miles on it - blast to drive.

Do those bumpers make it a 230SE?

The car looks great. I happen to like the alloys with blackwalls on a dark car. All in all, I'm not THAT far from you (I actually purchased a 114 Mercedes in Darien many moons ago)....if you need anything please let me know.

Congratulations!

I happen to be one of those who likes the alloy wheels as well ;) but we've sometimes discussed replacing ours as well to be more correct/original.
