Are FIPs mated to Venturis??  Can a 230SL FIP be used with a 280 venturi and vice versa??  Does the FIP arm angle calibration to the venturi arm change??  Inquiring Pagoda-ol-ogy??

I don't think so. The throttle valve has more control over which ignition system you can use than which pump is at the other end of the linkage.

The best example is on my own car where I'm using a 300SE distributor ( VA ) wth an early 230SL throttle valve, mated to a R18 injection pump on a 250SE engine.

The short answer is no.

The type of venturi/throttle body is determined by the ignition setup that is used in a particular model (e.g. vacuum advance or retard) like Dan already mentioned.

There are other differences with regards to the different throttle bodies that might make a simple swap a bit complicated.
Things to consider (to name a few) are the following:

a) absence/presence of intake preheating plumbing.
b) the different length linkages used from the cross-over rod to throttle body (more to do with the different inlet manifold styles and cross-over rod position than the throttle body itself).
c) the different sized steel inserts for the PCV system.

As far as I know (and after digging through my library), the throttle butterfly/FIP arm angles are the same for all pagodas.
