1963 230SL spare tire placement
« on: June 03, 2011, 03:29:03 »
Is it possible to have a 63 230sl with the spare tire mounted horizontally on the right side?
Every 63 I've ever seen has the spare on the left side mounted vertically.

I don't think that's likely unless the trunk floor rusted out and has been replaced.

Spare tire was first mounted level in 230SL number 6069 (02 Sep 1964) probably as a production test; then from 23 Oct 64 beginning with car #7205 horizontal spare was used for all remaining 113 production.

Yep: my car is #6466 (30 Sep 64) and it has the slanted/vertical spare tire placement.
