1991 190e 2.6

Gents,
I need a bit of advice.  I own a 1991 190e 2.6 with 155 000km, white over blue, babied, no rust, beautiful).  It needs rear brakes, some electrical work, tires in order to pass a 100$ inspection so it can be plated.

My dilemma:

1- sell it as a 500$ "don't call me if you have problems" junker

or

2- spend 2000$ to fix it, get it inspected, and hopefully get 3000$ for it?   I would have kept it as a second car because it is such a wonderful, trouble free driver, but we were given a 2002 vw golf with low miles so I will keep the more recent, cheaper vw car as a daily commuter, it just makes more sense in this situation.  Besides, I have my Pagoda for a toy.

I have no idea how much good examples typically sell for... some insight appreciated, thanks.

The 2.6 is very well thought of: he 190 is a lovely car and many think the 2.6 was the best of them (better than the Cossies) - http://mercedes-190.co.uk/index/

I feel your pain  - I went through this recently with my C280 (202) and ended up giving it to my father in law to use when mother in law is off working or playing golf. So it gets very little use but worthless as scrap and still a lovely car (with about 160,000k on it)
However, if you have the driver (that's cheaper and more reliable) and you have the toy, getting shot is likely the best option and I'd do it without the repairs: you cannot predict the exact cost and nor can you predict the sale price (and so your margin) whereas today you can say "the car owes me nothing, so anything I get for it is good"

So true...thanks for the advice.  This is in line with what I was thinking.  I paid 10 000$ for it in 2005, drove it, enjoyed it very much, and I know it would make the right guy very happy.  A guy with time on his hands.  A young enthusiast perhaps.

It makes ME very happy, I just do not have the use, for it, the time to do the easy repairs (brakes, tires, fluids, signal light wiring) anymore, and IU hate to see it go to waste.  Especially with the bin of parts and documentation that comes with it.  Oh well.

It is hard to find someone who will want to spend 3000$ on a 21 year-old car, however nice it is.
