New acquisition
« on: May 22, 2007, 13:03:30 »
Hi all,

I just bought a cherry '69 280SL 4-spd (papyrus white body - blue hardtop, hubcaps and interior --- original color scheme)with 56K original miles.  It was owned by an 85 year old man who owned the car since 1975.  He babied the car and it shows.  The trunk is immmaculate ---- zero rust and with the original Phoenix spare tire.  :D

I'm planning on going to the Blacklick 2007 tech session. I'm so eager to get my learn on.  I'm not exactly a mechanic... I'm a finance/accounting corporate guy by trade.

I'm fairly new to the club and forums.  Let me know what you think.  Click on link below to check out the photos.

Looks really, really nice. Definitely looks the way a low-mileage car is supposed to. Congrats on a fine purchase.

The only thing I'd change are those blue Bosch spark plug wires. Those are definitely an inferior & unreliable product that's uncharacteristic of Bosch.
(Fortunately, you can still purchase the factory part from Mercedes though.)

Hello Michael - welcome to the club. If you take in all of the good information being passed around here, you can do most things yourself. To me (an accounting/finance/SOx 404 type), that is half the fun of owning a car like the Pagoda!

Thanks Cees.  I loved the 560SL when I was kid and fell in love with the Pagodas soon after.  I want to get the 190SL next.   :D

Thanks Douglas.  I do plan on changing all of the fluids myself in a week.  I'm also going to get the whole car checked out by a mechanic.

Regards,
Michael

I will have photos of the underbody soon.  I had the car checked by my mechanic and it only needs all 4 brake caliper rebuilds and all brake hoses replaced.

Cheers,
Michael

Okay, I just finished uploading the underbody photos. The condition is very original. I have a lot of cleaning to do.

Let me know what you think.
