Washer Bottle Cap

Here are windshield washer caps on two 113 cars.

One has a plain cap...the other has a cap with a fitting that has two connectors and a tiny "bottle top". Only one of the two connectors is being used.

Which of these caps is "correct"?

If the "bottle cap" is not for a 113 car, what model car is it for?

"WasherCap2" is correct for the 113. "WasherCap" is from a sedan of the era.

Watch out for the fancy "extended stalk" washer cap with the metal "bottle cap" on top.  On some (LHD) cars the sharp edges of the metal cap will catch on the edge of the inner hood structure and chip off the paint finish.  Yeah, its an aluminum hood, but unprotected aluminum corrodes, too, if left unprotected.  Also the unused breather fitting allows air to enter the system and fluid to evaporate, which just puts an extra strain on the washer pump.  The good news is that you can remove the bottle capped extension from the cap itself and feed a proper length of tubing from the washer motor through the hole in the cap for an original looking installation!

This is an old thread  but it the issue was brought to my attention again today. I just heard from an owner whose 280SL hood was dented by using the wrong windshield washer reservoir cap. The correct original windhshield washer reservoir cap has not been available for many years so be sure you use an original or the correct replacement. The replacement is a 000 869 11 19 with a current us suggested list of $6.00.

I understand this is an old thread.  Does anyone know who has the right washer bottle (brass grommets) with the right (flat) cap for sale?
I am also looking for a brake reservoir.

VDO still produce the bottle, but they do not have the brass grommets. If must have it with the brass grommets you have to find a NOS. Try on Ebay. If you go for the one without brass grommets you can order it from your nearest MB dealer.

Grommets can be found in most hardware stores.  You'll need the tool to press the halves together.

Thanks for the tip, great idea to replace the grommets.  I did not think about it but it will work.  Now, I am mostly wondering about sourcing the correct flat cap.  Anyone know where to find them?

I did as Mike Hughes suggested to you.  Take the cap with the "extened stalk" and remove the stalk, it unscrews from cap.  Now, find at a hardware store or auto shop a small black rubber grommet size of hole, then feed tubing the size of your originial tubing throught the grommet.  The grommet makes for a tight fit, so that air will not get into the line and evaporate washer fluid.  This will also look as original. 

Also Hauser is correct.  You will have to fit brass grommets to the new VDO bottles, easy to do.

A shoemaker..cobbler will be able to do it for you if you don't want to buy the grommet tool just for that...
