Car Height?
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:14:58 »
After some suspension changes, my car seems to be a bit too tall; i.e., there is "much" more space between the road and the botton of the car as compared to when I first got the car about 30 years ago.  What are the optimum heights between the ground and highest point of the front and rear fender arches or the front and rear jack points?  Should the car be the same level front and back, or should the car be a bit lower in the front?  Thank you very much.

This drawing gives the height from the base of the wheels to the top of the Hard Top (unloaded) as 1320 cm or 52 inches.

The 1998 Service Manual "Blue Book" which should be "official" shows the same 1320 cm for the height of the Roadster Top.

The Mercedes Benz Roadsters book by Setright has a table with the height as 51.5 inches. The source for this figure is not given.

I guess the height fresh out of the factory could vary a bit from a 230 to a 280 due to changes in springs or shock absorbers.

The drawing also shows (to my eyes) that the body is level with no visible difference in the front and rear bumper height.

Danny,

There was a bit of a discussion on ride height in the following link to an earlier post that may answer some more questions.
