Fuelfilter after fuelpump

I started to clean the fuelpump a bit as described in this topic.
Now there is an filter placed after the outlet of the pump.
Is this necessary as there is an mesh filter in the inlet?
Should i replace it with a new one or just leave it away?

Most likely the screen that filters inside the pump is no longer there, that is probably why they have used an inline filter, If you are going to use the same pump then I would use a new filter.

Thanks for your answer. The filter at the inlet is still there, i cleaned it already.
I think i don't i will place a new inline filter as it has not much benefit.

It looks like a standard domestic  carbureted engine fuel filter. Keep in mind that most carbureted engines run on around 7psi fuel pressure. In addition the small filter is not meant to filter the huge volume of fuel pumped through the W113 fuel injection system. An in-line filter after the electric fuel pump in not original but can work, but you need to upgrade to a good quality in line filter which can handle the pressure and volume. There are lot of choices out there. Most later MB fuel injection cars had an inline fuel canister/filter after the electric fuel pump. They are large and robust and can handle fuel pressures over 100 psi.   

Some other less pricey domestic in-line filters can work, but make  sure it  is for a fuel injected application witch  is designed for higher pressure and volume. Might be easier to go back to original and all the guess work is taken care of.

Nobody? The brushses are indeed not available anymore at the dealer.
So have to find an alternative.

What is the part number? I have a pair of A 000 548 04 42

(ten minutes later) I also came across in my pile box a pair that is thinner they are a bit used but same length as the new ones. I have a feeling this is the one you need for the tall fuel pumps.

The brushes i'm looking for has partnumber A 000 548 02 42
Are you sure A 000 548 04 42 is the correct number?
If i do a search in EPC there is no match of any part at all.

Here is a photo of the parts, the large ones are 04 42 and I think the smaller ones are 02 42

The smaller ones looks very similair indeed.
I measured mine and the dimensions are 5.9x4.3mm and now a lenght of 9mm.
They don't look very much shorter than the new ones at your image.

If that is the case then the brushes should be ok, Mine are a bit over 11mm. I also found the two new bearings for the tall pump, I can't remember when I got these and why?
