The heater control on my 1966 230 sticks when the engine is cold? its the lever that directs warm air to the screen or to the feet {the lever on the top right}when the engine gets worm it becomes free, all the other levers work fine. when it does start working there is some resistance I do not like to put to much pressure on it in case it breaks :o,has anyone had this problem Cheers .Mike.

It must be the O ring on control valve inside your heater core, the coolant gets very sticky when cold, best solution would probably be to take the valve apart clean it and put some kind of grease to free it up.

Hi Mike,

I posted a similar problem both here in August 2012 as Heater "Defrost Cable", and on the MB UK site.
My Cable was very stiff.....then snapped !  the flap was stuck.

I was going to fix it myself, but failed to find good procedural information, the flap was stuck, and the cable snapped.
I cannot really tell you how to fix it as I left it to Brian & Simon at Redcastle here in Cardiff,
They were replacing the Ignition switch and doing some other work for me a month ago,
so they sorted it out then - not a cheap option  - but access is really horrible , and my back is not good in the winter.

Good luck

Hi, Mike,

You may just have a slightly rusty or kinked inner cable.
Lube may help but getting to the cables will be a challenge.
See post about changing heater matris below.

Hi Mike,
Good you have success, without the damaged knuckles maintenance !

There were a couple of Pagodas around Cardiff driven by the fairer sex for many years.
I must have seen your car all those years ago, I (via my Father)  first had contact with Continental Cars
when they were in Cowbridge Road Cardiff in the mid sixties, and I remained a customer through their 3 moves, until
around 2002 when I swopped SLK motoring for the Alvis Firebird.

But now I prefeer the Pagoda.

Keep well
