Refurbishment of Hand Brake Cables?
« on: January 23, 2013, 20:17:40 »
Other than being more than adequately preserved for 46 years by a thick coating of grease, oil and road grime, the three brake cables on my very early `67 or very late `66 Italian version 230SL have three little (used to be rubber) bellows to protect the cables from moisture and contaminates that are very hard and brittle.  They absolutely must be replaced, BUT, everything else is in great shape, under the grime.  There isn`t even any rust.

I know that the short front cable bellows can be changed because it is shown in the EPC as a separate item with a bellows part number.  I cannot justify paying $250 to replace the rear cables when all I really need are the rubber bellows.  Does anyone know if the front cable bellows could be stretched enough to slide over the whiffle-tree hooks of the rear cables to avoid buying new cables?

Thanks, Kevin, for the use of the EPC sketch from your old post.

Is: Dark Blue 332G with Dark Blue Leather (5300, I think)

Thanks, Eric.  I`ll just buy three bellows and refurbish the cables.
