Sound Deadener, but how much?
« on: January 22, 2016, 03:16:34 »
Although I narrowed down the search for the sound deadener material to B-Quiet Ultimate, at the moment I am puzzled how much to order?
Essentially they offer two packages: 12 or 50 sq ft.
The first option looks to be on the low side, but is 50 too much or barely enough?
If you have done this already, please share your thoughts - I found a few threads, but could not find how much material anyone actually ended up using.

Your going to eat through 12 sq ft just under the seats and front floor. The problem I see with this mat is that the rolls (either 12 or 50) are only 12 inches wide which means 2 rows per side with a lot of waste. Also extra seams which is where it looses its efficiency. The competitor's material is wider at 18 and 24 inches. Best way to estimate how much you will need is measure and add at least 20% for waste with minimal seams. It all depends on how far you want to take it. Behind the blower box, inside door skins, etc..

Thanks Tyler. Who is the competitor?

Igor,
Dynamat and B-Quiet are good sound dampeners but only for panel vibrations and resonance. You do not need to cover more than 1/3 of a panel.
To block airborne sound you need something different. This web site explains the differences quite well:

One member here used a thin lead sheet for mass loading, I have used mass loaded vinyl over the floor boards and the tunnel becauseI could pick it up from a vendor in the vicinity. Shipping either one is way to expensive.
Instead of B-Quiet or Dynamat I used the CLD tiles  on the floor, inside the door, the trunk and the rear panel above the parcel shelf.
Make sure to read the "Function" and "How to" explanation for these products:
