Low fuel warning light - 1964 230SL
« on: December 23, 2012, 08:16:51 »
Did the (UK spec) early 230SL have a low fuel warning light? Mine doesn't seem to, but perhaps a bulb has gone? The gauge works - in a fashion - but I am currently having to reset the trip meter each time I fill up to judge when to fill up again.

TIA.

The circuit diagram seems to show one (10c fuel reserve warning)

Thanks Paul. Can I ask where on the dashboard the light is?

Hello. It is a small square (red when lit) at the bottom of the fuel gauge. Are you certain you have run low enough to activate? Its scary to find out -- but I had same concern... Until it came on! Usually with 1-2 gallons left. Good luck.

James - thanks for that; I am truly embarrassed to admit to it, but it could well be that I have never let the tank empty sufficiently for the light to come on. (I have only had the car for a couple of months). Now that I re-look at this photo, presumably the red "dot" is the light?

I'll put a plastic petrol can in the boot (/trunk) and let the tank get lower to see if it works ...

An update; having syphoned out some fuel I can confirm that my light does indeed work, and seems to come on with about 7-8 litres of fuel remaining. It would have been nice if it came on _slightly_ earlier, but at least I now know it works! Thanks all.
