230SL dimensions without bumpers
« on: January 14, 2014, 02:07:58 »
I have an enclosed trailer that I am hopefully going to use to move the 230SL project or parts car that I am buying.

It will be a tight fit as my 380SL will not fit in it by a few inches.  I understand the 230 is a little shorter.  I saw the specs but that includes the bumpers I assume.

Does any one have the exact length of the 230 without bumpers and the exact width at the widest point.

Thanks in advance. I'm really looking forward to getting this car where I can take a good look at it and decide if its a restoration project or a parts card.

without bumpers 162 x 68 inches
Although the front bumper doesn't add any length because the nose projects the same distance as the bumper

Thanks.  I'll measure the inside of the trailer.  I know the 68 inches is okay.  The question will be if I have enough room to tie the car down and still close the rear doors.  I'm not sure of the exact length of the trailer.

According to the technical data manual (1966) the full width is actually slightly more: 1760 mm = 69.3 inch.

According to the technical data manual (1966) the full width is actually slightly more: 1760 mm = 69.3 inch.

The specs also say the length, with bumpers, is 168.7 in.  If the front bumpers don't add any length and the 162 is correct, then the rear bumpers extend about 6.7 inches.  I suppose that is possible but that seems like a pretty big bumper.  Looking at pictures, it also seems that the exhaust may extend some too.  I will have very little extra length to spare and if I'm going to use the trailer I have it is critical that I know the total length too the last thing sticking out without the bumpers.  Any confirmation of the length without bumpers would be appreciated.  If its 162 inches, including the exhaust then I'm fine but confirmation would be appreciated.

Thanks again for all the help.  I am a long way from the car and I don't want to take a covered trailer there that I have that might not work.
