OEM Steering Wheel
« on: February 08, 2013, 15:35:12 »
I decided to replace the Nardi wheel that came with my car with the correct one, which I bought this week from the Classic Center.  FYI -  I was told that my purchase was the last black one in stock in the US.

Was this a black original wheel you purchased? I thought if you ordered the original number the superseded it to the newer 107 chassis wheel.

I gave them my VIN number (January 1971 280SL) and the part number that they sent is 100-464-09-01.  The invoice noted that that part replaces part no 115-464 ....

Thanks John. Does it match the original wheel exactly?

Regards,
Jack

The wheel is an exact match.  The horn ring is the correct matte finish.  (I am told that these are very hard to get, but the Classic Center had it.)  The horn pad looks great but the star emblem in the center is very slightly different than the original in that it is missing a second chrome colored circle around the outer edge.

I am looking forward to driving my car with an OEM wheel.

....  that it is missing a second chrome colored circle around the outer edge.  ...
Be happy, that is exactly what it should be for a 280SL wheel.  :)

This is what I ordered from the Classic Center and prices:

100-464-09-01 black steering wheel
list $458.00
paid $389.30

115-464-05-15 horn ring
list $117.00
paid $99.45

115-464-03-42 black center pad
list $320.00
paid $272

The discount is for MBCA members.  I brought the car to work today and am reminded how much I like the OEM wheel.
