Dashboard lights

I've just finished doing the short out on the rheostat , as described in the tech manual, the fix blew the fuse. Not sure what I did wrong.? Has any one else done this?

recheck the wiring connectors under the dash, or the bulb sockets touching the metal somewhere will cause short too.

Hi Johnny, I did this as per the manual and didn't have any trouble.  I also resurrected the headlight flasher option on the indicator stalk, as per the manual, successfully.

cheers

I am also willing to bypass the rheostat.
I just want to be sure I will work on the good connector.
I have opened the one on the middle of the plate (between a brown connector and a round one), but the colors of the cables doesn't seem to match the description on the tech manual. in particular, there are two cables arriving on the n° 5 pin.
Could anybody give me more details in order to get the good connector ?

Finally, it is also OK for me.
The right connector is the closest to the driver.
On my 71 280SL, contrary to the instructions, the connector is a brown Bakelite box, and the cover is held by 3 screws.
But the heater levers lights don't work (I replaced the levers and the lights recently, but I could have done something wrong in putting them back in place).
