Dash vinyl

I am putting new MB Tex on my dash. On both the left and right side of the top dash piece, there are these metal triangle wing pieces that butt up to the air vent. The right side is one inch short of butting up to the vent. Has this been cut or is there some magical engineering involved. I am still blown away by the workings of the glove box.

I am also painting the dash. So, I can't put the dash piece on to illustrate the gap. When I described the metal wing...it's the part of the top dash piece that hangs down and covers the lower pillar area and butts up to the air vent. It too gets covered with MB Tex. I will post some pics when the top coat dries.

The pictures are not very clear, once you have all three pieces an the top dash they should fit very tight if in fact you have an inch missing most likely it's been cut.

That is what I was afraid of. Why???? That may be never known. Thanks for the confirmation on the snug fit. It's off to the fabrication shop.
