BAT auctions 1967 230sl sold prices

Hi All,

Noticed two 67 230sl driver quality Pagoda's sold via Bat in the last couple of weeks, for exceptionally strong money. One in green- a well used driver and the other in beige- original car. 80 000 usd and 72,500 usd respectively. Is there a premium for these cars as the production numbers were low- i think around 135 cars built in 67?

Although I have no hard and fast data, my general impression is that the ‘67 230SLs have no premium value per se.  I think overall condition and color combinations are what buyers are willing to pay a premium for.  Green cars seems to attract higher bids and any car that is original and in fine condition is desirable despite its year of production.

Matt, if you look at our tech manual you will see that both of these cars were actually made in 1966.  They were no doubt US destined cars so they were badged as '67's.  A 230SL with a VIN after 019737 would have been made in '67.  My car is a '66 and it has a VIN between these two cars, but mine was initially sold in Germany.  Had it gone to US it would have been registered as a '67.
