Power Steering Hose on 230SL
« on: May 19, 2013, 12:02:40 »
I noticed I have some small drips of power steering fluid on the garage floor ever so often. Tried tracking this down to a leak in one of the hoses or connections, but have concluded that it may be coming from the fluid reservoir itself. While checking this out, I noticed that the hose running from the reservoir to the pump has a slight kink in it and the leak may be caused by excessive back pressure from this kink. It looks like the hose at some time or another had been replaced with a straight section of high pressure hose. I found a picture shot on the tech manual of the reservoir and hose and it appears that this is supposed to be a hose with a pre-formed bend in it to accommodate the turn--is this correct? If so, doe anyone have the correct part number?

Nope.  It's 006 997 09 82, a by the meter item.

I doubt that this is your problem, but you might try moving the reservoir up or down, or turning it and/or the metal fitting on the pump to a better alignment.
