Clutch differences
« on: August 01, 2013, 17:14:03 »
I'm shopping for a clutch.  280 sel motor in a 250SL, 250 Flywheel.  I'm finding clutch sets/kits for $200 +- 20 from 3 sources, or individual Sachs parts for about $100 more.

Any experience out there?

Buy Sachs, $100.00 is not a lot considering the amount of work it takes to do the job, I have had them on my coupe for the last five years and & am very happy with it.

I'm replacing the disc and the plate and have been told the 280 setup bolts to the 250 flywheel.  So I'm planning on buying the 280 which is a lighter disc type plate rather than the multiple coil springs in the 230 and 250, which I have now.  I am sure the throwout bearing is different at the plate side.  I don't know about the fork side.
The Sachs disk $100, Sachs plate $151, pilot bearing 10, thowout bearing 42, total $303.
A SPEC SE571 Clutch Kit Stage 1is $323
a stock New Generation 11-012 Premium Clutch Kit is $191.

Anyone know if my 250 fork will work with the 280 throwout bearing and pressure plate?
