MBZ Replacement Battery Fit
« on: July 10, 2013, 23:27:24 »
Does anyone have experience using the modern MBZ replacement battery which is P/N 000-982-31-08?  I'm told that it is the modern-day replacement for the original which has a long back order lead time from Germany (months).  I measured it at my local MBZ dealer and it appears to be slightly longer than what the OEM battery retainer frame will fit.  I measured 10 and 13/16 inches whereas the inside dimension of the retainer from is about 10 and 3/4 inches which is very close.

Any advice would be appreciated.  I'm trying to stick with an MBZ battery rather than buying the Sears 34R battery but would rather not wait months to get the true MBZ original.

Here's an update on my question.  It's for general info for those faced with the choosing among battery replacement options.

I took the upper retainer for the battery to my local MBZ dealer to see if it would fit squarely on battery no. 000-982-31-08 which is the recommended modern era substitute.  It did not.  The battery is slightly longer so this is not a good replacement option if you want to use the upper retaining frame.

However, I did find a non-MBZ battery that fit well.  I looked at Interstate's MT-24F.  It was a very good fit to the upper retainer.  This was recommended to my by Bud's Benz.

The original MBZ battery is a long delivery item, so the above Interstate option may be a good compromise.
