Current part numbers and specifications
« on: June 01, 2013, 10:40:19 »
What do I need in order to be able to look up part numbers, superseded parts, specifications of screws and other fixings etc?

I have some of the old MB parts manuals but need something more comprehensive and current.

Many have been helpful on here in giving me information relating to specific items but I'm thinking it might be simpler if I could look this stuff up myself.

I have seen the EPC(?) referred to and some members have access to DIN specs for various components.

Is this an MB dealer only database or can I obtain a copy or access it somehow?

Thanks

David

Access to the EPC comes with joining the 'Mercedes Benz Owners Club' here in the UK. You
also get a Monthly mag plus Mercedes Classic mag and 10% discount when purchasing at MB dealers.
All for £30 ish a year.

I believe that Canadians are unable to access the EPC from the Classic Center. As soon as you enter your BC postal code it kicks you out.

I have all of the original MB dealers books. Most of the part numbers are still the same while some have been changed over the years and some parts are NLA. What sort of things are you looking at?

Haven't tried this but when it asks for your postal code enter the 3 numbers of your postal code followed by 00 (zero zero).  This also apparently works when getting gas in the US at self serve stations and it asks for your zip code prior to pumping your gas.

There's a few ebay sellers purportedly supplying the current Mercedes Benz EPC on DVD/CD.

Anyone used these?

Marcus and Dan and all you Canadians,
I tried to get the EPC just the other day and it rejected every attempt. I tried the 3-digit trick with the zeroes. It has a drop-down menu for "State" and no provinces are included. You are also required to enter a credit card, even though it's offered free, and you can't fake the address in the credit card company's database.
Another trick to try is for one of you kindly U.S. Americans to provide one of us trustworthy Canadian Americans with your password and let us login. Their server might not test the IP address, and might let us in. Although I'm not sure if that would make it any easier for honest North Americans to share the EPC anyway.
It's disappointing because it's advertised as available to North Americans, not just U.S. Americans.

US Mac users also ineligible, although MBUSA & MBCA staff are convinced otherwise (or were last year).

Maybe we need to lobby the MBCC.

I think Benz Dr's suggestion is a good one, even if it is only for full members. I buy parts from the MB Classic centre as do other down under and can't access part no's etc.  Go for it!

Can you order parts  off the EPC? how do you join and do I have to know  the present part number
to find what I want?

You use the EPC to find the part numbers then order from your dealer, supplier etc.
