Speedo Needle Hub Has Fallen Off ('71 280SL)
« on: March 29, 2014, 00:06:12 »
The chrome center hub of my speedo needle has fallen off. The gauge works fine; the needle moves properly; just the decorative center hub has fallen off. So, I now have that chrome center piece sitting in the bottom of the gauge face area. Anyone know is there a way to just remove the face of the speedo gauge, or do I have to remove the entire gauge? It looks like a little super glue might re-attach the chrome hub, once I get the glass off. I do see the full instructions in the Technical Manual if I need to remove the whole speedo, but I'm hoping there may be an easier way? Thanks for any suggestions.

You'll have to remove the whole speedometer. The center button is bare brushed aluminum finish, do not handle it with bare hands. The oils in  your skin will cause it to oxidize. Yes a bit of glue will work just fine.
