The procedure is described in the technical manual in detail, just search for it.
The wires in the cable from the center cluster instrument with the rheostat in your car should match the wire colors shown in the procedure.

Hammer,
Having just successfully done this in the last few days (with the help of the technical manual and some new friends here on the Pagoda Group Forum) I can tell you that it is a pretty easy and straight forward fix. There is a black metal bracket mounted on the lip of the dash at its very bottom to the left of the steering wheel. On the bracket there are several components including the flasher can. There is a bakelite 12 pin electrical connector on the bracket which is the closest "black box" to the driver. When you pry the connector apart there is a female side and a male side. As 66and Blue has suggested you need to work with the male side. The just follow the directions in the technical manual.

Hammer,
As I said, the instructions in the technical manual should tell you what you need to know. the description and photos are excellent.
These might also help. You do nothing with the female side of the connector. You can ask Alfred how I know.

If you really have different colors and only 11 pins in your cable coming from the center cluster instrument then you either have a center gauges from a different car, or someone messed it up royally.
I still believe you are looking at the wrong end of the connectors under the dash - so it is show and tell time now, post a photo as Lin suggested.
