!984 Euro 280SL
« on: September 09, 2013, 15:42:30 »
Recently a very close freind passed away and left behind a 1984 Euro 280SL. His wife has asked me to help sell it.  The car is located in Savananh, Ga.  I have the data card from Mercedes and everthing seems to be in order. The car is Anthrcite Gray  with Gray cloth interior, It does have the hard top and a new soft top which is black The car has 16800 miles on it.  I went on line to get a feel for the pricing but not much listed in the States.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Hi Brian, It reads "1984 Euro 280SL." should it not read "1964 Euro 280SL."

I think posting some photos would help others here (some outside and inside shots). Just a thought here.

Nice of you to help out a friend in need! GLWTS

Brian,  A friend has a 280Sl with similar mileage.  Sweet little cars.

Similar to the 380sl with a smaller engine - very well balanced for a panzerwagen....but the American mentality is bigger is better and the 280s seem to falter on the pricing.  If you look at the price guides you should see the 280sl with similar pricing as the 380sl.   They are nicer to drive than the one with the V-8 lump but guys I talked to incorrectly want the V-8.

I have been watching pricing starting several years ago as I didn't think I would ever get a 113.   A beater should be in the $5-6,000 range and go up from there.  I haven't seen any higher than $15,000 but I have a very limited inventory to guage my opinion on.  I had a look at several 380-450-560 and 2 280sls and both of the 280s were owned by real enthusiasts and were in excellent shape as compared to the 450 and 380s which were run hard and put away wet.

Check the german or British magazines about the 280s - you may need to educate the buying public when you help sell the car.

Does it have a 5 spd or automatic?

I see, so this site here ---> http://forsale.evo.co.uk/search/mercedes-280-sl

should help you to set a price based n the car's condition.

I own a 1984 5 speed Euro 280SL and the car is wonderful. I bought it 7 years ago since I was in the middle of restoring my Pagoda. Parts are easy to acquire and it reminds me a lot of the old car when I drive it. Values are all over the place and condition is the key of course but rough cars can go for $1000 and pristine examples as high as 25K for a 5 speed. Autos are less.
