car died while driving no fuel
« on: October 06, 2013, 16:44:48 »
All was great.  Then it died while going 30mph.  Not getting fuel in engine.  Tank full.  Newer fuel pump tank filter etc.  Pushed car home.  Disconnected fuel line plenty of fuel flow and pressure past filter.  Spark and compression good.   Not sure what to do next.

Dave, did you check fuel flow and volume at the return line just before the gas tank?  How do you know you are not getting fuel in the engine?  Battery and alternator OK?

Did you try re-starting the engine?

Battery and alternator ok. Crank and crank. Hit for a split second and die.  Same condition for a week.  Gas full.  Now have time to go after it.  Last year new fuel return line and hoses replaced new fuel pump and tank.

Sounds like it might be the fuelpump. With the ignition on without cranking the engine, make sure the fuel pump is running. They can fail even when they are new,
Addition: Oops, should have read your entire post showing that fuel was flowing... Guess I jumped to a quick concøusion due to tha fact that the fuel pump seized on me the other day leaving me and the pagoda stranded 50 meters uphill before my garage while the rain poured down.

If you have fuel, spark on time and compression, the engine should run. It has to be one of the three. Closely check the ignition in case your problem is intermittent.

Check the cold start valve, take the little screw out and see gas is spraying on starting.  Gass need to get through the FIP and through the CSV.  Sounds like you spark is ok -ti tries to start with a lot of craking.
