Poor restoration job - need Pagoda expert report (UK)
« on: October 13, 2013, 19:45:17 »
Hi everyone

Well I have been the victim of someone who professed to be a MB specialist restorer; in short he had the car for nearly four years and in that time billed me over £20k for welding and a very below par respray - he said I was impatient and unreasonable - go figure....he handed me the car back in appalling condition having done welding on the car without bracing or jigging the car - now the doors don't fit...in fact its in worse condition now than when i gave it to him. Not exactly the experienced I had dreamed of since 1973 when I first swore to myself one day I will have a pagoda...

I have started legal action against him and need an expert Pagoda specialist restorer to produce a report on the work he has done; I am based in the east midlands/UK.....any suggestions would be much appreciated PLEASE..

At some point I may mention this so called specialists name but do not want to breach site rules.

Kind regards
Dieter Schanzer

Dieter, I think you need some serious help.

If I was you I would contact Colin Ferns (see info at the link below). I don't know how far you are from him, it might be in your best interest to get a hold of him.

Again, if I was you, I would have my car towed to his shop so he may prepare and issue a final report that you then present in a court of law. Once you get your money back from the previous shop you can use it to have Colin and his team do a proper job for you. Sorry to hear you had to go thru this type of aggravation.

PS. I guess we all learn sooner or later. A while back I ordered the little chrome ring that fits around the ignition key in our dash, I paid $49- plus $10- and $22.30 for that little sucker. When I got it zi fond a used one all pitted for my money. Last month I phoned the Classic Centre in California ordering some control arm rubber bushings. I ask about this ring and got a brand new one for $17.50 ... yes we all have to learn.

I would assume that what you really need here is good advice which I think you will get from Colin. The guys name who did the work is incedental being as most people on this forum live a long ways from you. :( And, I expect you will get some results even if they weren`t what you had in mind to begin with.

Good luck with getting this sorted out.

You think they are bad, wait till you get a VW Kombi.  Tow trucks have love affairs with Kombi's.

+1 on the body stuff from Colin - he did mine ;D

You may also want to reach out to Jay Manek at Mercland in Nuneaton for some advice too. He tends to stock newer cars but has quite a stable of his own including a Pagoda

If your car is not running, I know a very good transport chap
