Been a while since this topic has been discussed. Has anybody that ordered the newly manufactured ZFs actuallu received and installed one yet. Curious as to how they stack up to the originals.

I ordered and received one of the ZF 5 speed gear boxes from ZF.

They are pretty much a replica of the originals.  I sold it on to the new owner of my 280SL 5 speed.  Have not heard if he put it in yet as he was planning on leaving the existing Getrag box there at this point.

Hi, does anyone know if the new spare part kits are just for the new boxes, or if they can be used for old original boxes too?

Thanks,

The parts kit fits all. The new box is pretty much a replica if the old one.

Spare parts fit the old boxes as well. I ordered and received both a rear cover plate and reverse light switch and have installed both with no issues. Just beware that ZF is not the easiest vendor to deal with when ordering these spare parts. If you need to order any seach through these pogts. I found a ZF point of contact who in the end was able to help me out after much searching.
