Update; after 9 days parked in my garage I find that I only have a minor transmission leak at the motor to transmission vertical sealing face (directly more or less in line with the firewall). The main leak (not too alarming) seams to be at the transmission rear end.

Can the rear seal be changed with the transmission in place? Or is it necessary to remove the transmission from the car? I wish I had a cross section of te transmission to figure out how one would change te rear seal.

Anyone had this issue before?

I think you can replace the trans back seal without removing the trans. You will have to disconnect the shaft and take the trans output flange out. Do not forget to put sealant on the shaft splines when you put the flange back in place as otherwise it may leak through there. Leaks in the back can also come out of the speedo cable seal. If I were you, I would put the car on a lift and look precisely where the leak(s) come from. This may save you some time, effort and money.
