Gliders
« on: December 29, 2014, 04:56:55 »
My son and I went up to the Santa Ynez Valley in central California with the Pagoda this past weekend.  For those of you who know the wine movie "Sideways" will know this area.  It's a wine region near Santa Barbara.

We went for our first ever airplane glider experience.   Quite nice with remarkably clear weather as we soared over this region and along the Pacific coast.

The Pagoda made a round trip run of 372 miles.

I've seen a magazine ad for, I think Mercedes.. or maybe it was an early Porsche 911 advertisement.. that had a car parked next to a glider in a field and a guy with a good looking blonde... like they just landed and were going to get back in the car 'A sporting gentleman has a cool car AND he flies gliders' kind of message.

Here is a great picture of a mercedes Glider.  https://www.flickr.com/photos/jmaokoen/5280750233/

or this one

MG had a whole run of ads with hang gliders, parachuters, biplanes etc. suggesting that the drivers were different.  I wonder if it was a Playboy or a Marlborough Cigarette add that I am thinking of.
