Crane XR 700 ignition system
« on: January 02, 2014, 16:13:40 »
I have a '64 230 sl. A previous owner installed a Crane XR 700.  The original ballast seems to be connected to the ignition switch. There does not seem to be ballast between the Crane module and the dist.  I've replaced the spark plug wires with ones that meet the original specs (solid core with resistance at spark plug boot). After reading up on the XR 700, it seems that different wire is needed. Anyone have any comments or suggestions? I'm having a problem with plug fouling. Thanks Chuck

PM me with your email address and I'll send the Crane "manual" written for the Pagoda some years ago by a Pagoda owner.

No need to do that. As always it is in our Technical Manual: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Restricted/CraneInstallTips

Didn't know that Peter--thanks.

Now, Col Webb, after you sort it out I'll tell you why you might consider a change to a smaller, cheaper and easier to install/replace Pertronix... ;)
