mechanical pump

new to the site. i have a 1966 230sl stick finally got around to working on it. recently rebuilt the electric fuel pump as it was solid with varnished fuel. the car runs great for a little while then fouls plugs and runs like crap.  but my main concern is i have no fuel coming out of the #5 cyl port on the injection pump. all the others do have fuel coming out when cranking. going a little further in the pump i removed the next piece below what the fuel line connects to and with key on fuel comes out of every port including #5. any ideas? is my injection pump broken? awesome site by the way thanks.

Hello Nasthan,

Welcome, you have come to the right place.  Sounds like your WRD is stuck in the cold position and then runs rich after warm up.  Search WRD for lots of information and get back with us with questions. We will get you fixed  up!

$0.02: sounds like 2 problems, yes the WRD if it runs much better cold then runs like crap with motor up to temp. 
The pump is more like a cam and lifters: the cam pushes the lifter up compressing the gas.  The lifter is called a piston.  The piston can get stuck in the up position.  do some seareching on the FIP in the tech manual.  Afew people have explained with pictures, how to get the piston moving again. 

Getting the FIP working right is a process: ignition in good shape, linkage adjusted, WRD working correctly, Warm idle.  Those are the basics and foundation.  Some go deeper and adjust the FIP.  There are articles on all of this.

Most important: have fun with this great car.

Checking the free movement of the injection pump is easy. Just check the free movement of the rack. (see tech manual for details and photos). Still check the WRD first. Ask questions.

so i took the pump off and after reading some posts on here about someone freeing frozen plungers in their pump i had confidence i could handle it. i also had no movement in the rack. using rubbing alcohol and some carb cleaner with patience i was able to get everything moving. thanks to this site the pump is back on and running as it should.
