The convex outside mirrors were (are?) available from MB at the Classic Center. When I bought mine I think they were about $20 and took about 15 seconds to install.

Michael, was that the RHS passenger mirror? Tom H. quoted me …. PN 110-810-20-16 $290.00

Your car and mine came off the factory floor on the same day (with only 3 numbers on the VIN # apart) so I assume that our outside mirrors are the same design on the driver side?

BTW, hopping to pass your way next year, so perhaps our two cars can meet again after 45 years, bet they have lot's to talk about. ;D

EDIT … I just checked them out on ebay, they are "Rearview Mirrors" …. my bad … $8- what a deal I don't think they are anything like the original …

Looks like Richard M. of NYC (found his thread in the old Pagoda SL Group forum) ordered one in 2008, his finally arrived in 2010 … Story here ---> http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?action=printpage;topic=12939.0

Looks like from 2008 (at $90-) to 2013 (at $290) is quite a price increase by the Classic Centre :) no wonder our car prices are on the up and up

(Whatever did we do before the Internet …. I know the Encyclopædia Britannica … I donated mine some 20 years ago with 25 yearbooks, bet they still use it everyday in Africa)

I know a member here who got a similarly shaped BMW convex mirror and got a local glass cutter to cut it to the correct size. I was going to do the same at some point as the 230 original rear mirror as-is is next to useless.

Sounds like you were quoted for a MIRROR; the price I was quoted was for CONVEX MIRROR GLASS only, and it is the same L+R. bought 2, about $40 installed in minutes. While it is useful on the driver's side, it makes the passenger side mirror (if you have one) USEFUL. Without it, there's just not a wide enough field, which is why all new cars have convex glass in the passenger side.

New cars also have a warning about "objects being closer" but the part from MB does not.

Go back to Tom and tell him you want MIRROR GLASS ONLY. I don't know about the eBay ones…I went OEM.  :)

Michael,

Do you happen to know if oem ones are available for 230s, by chance? It would save me faffing around with getting glass cut. Just wondered.

Thanks,

James

No, James, they are not. :-[

For "our" fintail 110 mirrors there is no factory convex glass available.

So we have to go the aftermarket way.

I am currently on that trip too.
More on this in 1 - 2 months.
