Well guys it's been a great summer! Me and my father have gotten a lot done on the car, and a lot of our progress is thanks to you guys out there! It's been a lot of fun posting my progress and being able to see that some of you check up on us often. But it's time for me to be off to college. So my posts are gonna be slowing down a little bit. I'll try to keep putting pictures up and posting you guys on my dad's progress. Thanks a bunch!

Hello sl113.org! I'm back from college and the 230SL restoration is back in full swing. My dad and I have been working on it for about two weeks now. The plan for this summer is to get the car moving on it's on power.  As of now we still need to get our gas tank lined, and weld the back panel on the car still. Just yesterday I turned the key, and the starter turned over the engine!!! We were quite excited, thinking we had to get the thing outta there. Progress is going well, and if all goes well the pagoda will be moving in about a month!  ... Then we'll have to do the brakes...

(Sorry for anybody who finds my journal-thread annoying... just email me and let me know.)

Sphe,

Your "bio" says you're in New York.  Whether that's the city or the state, you are very near a lot of other members of this list.  I hate to speak for other people, but knowing these people like I do I feel comfortable saying that you could probably get some help in person if you just cook a good meal!  If you ever get stuck or need extra hands, don't hesitate to ask.  Also, make sure you attend a Pagoda event in your area this summer, you'll learn a lot and have a good time.

I was looking back on this post, and I cam to realize that since the car should be running on its own soon that I should make absolutely sure that everything has the proper fluid in it. I know how to replace some of the things but I do have a few questions...

Brake fluid - I wont get to this until I actually do the brakes for  the car so no worry here...

Radiator fluid- thats easy
Power steering fluid - what kind of fluid do i use, and where/how do i drain it/replace it?

Transmission fluid - again what kind of fluid, and where/how do i drain/replace?

Differential oil- same, fluid? where/how replace/drain?
F.I. Pump oil - same, fluid? where/how replace/drain?

The repairing of the rear end of the body is coming along well. Hopefully will be slappin the gas tank on the car and turning the key in about a week!

Heh, sorry rodd, i guess i should have checked first...

A WORD TO THE WISE! Please all be careful when welding. It is an important tool, but you need to be cautious. This maybe a stupid statement to everyone, but in case people over look it... BE CAREFUL, and dont use stuff that catches fire.
Also, stop drop and roll...

As you can probably figure out, i lit my pants on fire. and after a second of running around the yard my dad chase me down and hosed me off. Thank goodnes. Funny for everyone else, yes. But not one of my prodest moments. :o

Well well, it's been a long summer, and it just shows that restoration takes a lot of time. The back panel is completely welded on (and it looks pretty good if i do say so myself), and the gas tank sealer is drying as we speak. We're taking a 2 week vacation to florida, so we'll get back, slap on the tank, turn the key.....

... and see what we'll have to do next summer.
