This is one of the definitive books about the Pagoda. The author had access to the Mercedes archives and included photos of notes and letters of those who designed this car.

Contains photos and drawings of Pagoda prototypes, clay model, and more to see how the car evolved and where you want to say, "Glad they didn't use that one."

The tables of specifications and production changes are taken from original production documents and are considered among the most reliable and accurate. Production changes include the VIN sequence number of the first or last car to have a change applied.

The original edition is in German and from the look of the cover and the absence of any comment on the Amazon site, it looks like this new edition is also in German. A non-German speaking enthusiast can get a lot out of the book from the photos, and the tables which are not too difficult to figure out.  And today with all the translate sites available, a dedicated (and patient) reader can make his/her way through the text.

I always hoped a bi-lingual collector would contact the publisher and come up with an English edition...but the potential sales numbers might be too small to justify the cost.

Hi.  This is my first post, so please don't come down too hard on me!   :)

Thanks for the recommendation on the German book (my wife and mother-in-law speak German, so I have some good translation resources).  The Amazon site recommended: "Mercedes 230SL, 250SL, 280SL Ultimate Portfolio 1963-1971", a 2010 paperback.  Not sure if that is worth buying also.

Any other recommended books?

Rothko,

I published an article in The Star last year about a "Mercedes Library" and how to build one. Might answer some of your questions. Check back issues; if you are not a member of the MBCA [you should be!] contact me offline and I'll email you a copy.

We have a short listing of some books...the descriptions are a few years old but are probably still useful.
