Re-colouring MBtex

I have just ordered in enough bamboo MBtex to recover the underside of my hardtop, and the hatch cover for the soft top. On receiving the bamboo MBtex I have realised the previous owner has had the entire inside of the car re-coloured to a deeper brown  (he replaced the seat covers with cognac).  I have to say it looks good and the upholstery in in good nick except for the two areas mentioned above.  I will probably get a professional to recolour the new MBtex but thought I would ask if anyone had had good results using a kit, and if so what it was.

I have had good luck using Vinyl dye which is basically a flexible painy that is spray applied. You will have to find an auto paint store to see if they can match what you need.

Hi, thanks for that.  I have found a company here which can do it, however it sounds like replacing the MBtex on the bottom of the heardtop means all the windows have to come out and I am not prepared to do that, as the original is not really bad.

I consider myself a pretty handy guy I have done 2 hardtops now... AND YOU COULD NOT PAY ME ENOUGH TO DO ANOTHER!... I tell you it is a bear if the screws and top is rusty.... Redye send Joann at Color-Plus in Milford PA a sample she will match it, I have been ordering from her for 20+ years ( I was in high school when I 1st called to get dye for a Jensen Healy). Hi, phew, that confirms don't do a hardtop. Mine is in excellent shape except for the MBtex, in your opinion is it possible to replace this without taking the windows out?

I would do a search of suppliers and stores for a vinyl spray paint that matches the colour(s) you want.  Remove as much trim as you can (anything screwed into place like the wood, handles, latches), tape off and cover everything you don't wanted painted and then put on several very thin coats of spray paint.  I did this with my head liner which was badly stained and it now looks brand new.  The little holes do not get covered by paint (provided you don't put it on thick) and the vinyl retains its elasticity.  Looks like I installed a new headliner.
