I was reading an older post by W.T. Forsythe about his adding a BW overdrive unit to the original automatic. He mentioned his article in the July 2007 Pagoda World. Is there anyway to get a copy of this article or any other info on this? It sounds like a great idea. I have wondered about the possibility of a Gear Vendors unit. It would require a lot of custom machining, but might be a good option.

This is a great solution, because you're retaining all of the original running gear. It's ironic that you wound up with a 63 Rambler OD unit. My dad had many Nash and AMC cars. Most of the early ones were 6 cyl with OD and a 4:11 rear. His main goal was to economically pull a small camp trailer. His last overdrive car was a 63 Classic wagon with bucket seats and console with the twin stick option. I had a 64 hardtop Ramble Classic with the V8 twin-stick overdrive and 3:54 rear. The car was a ball and you could drive it as a 6 speed. My high school buddies didn't know what to think : ). We still have a 66 and 67 Rambler V8s.

In short, that BW is a great unit. Have you ever fabricated the adapter for other people? And what are the two bent rods in the photo that look like they have rod ends? Does the unit bolt to the back of the transmission or "float" slightly on the rubber mounts?
