Brand new pagoda?

I noticed in the press that Simon Cowell had just bought himself an Eagle E-type Jaguar.
These "jags" have virtually everything stripped out of them and all new modern running gear added together with all the technology of today.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2582895/Simon-Cowell-splashes-650-000-super-rare-Jaguar-seeing-Top-Gear.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

You end up with a lovely looking classic ( albeit altered fairly significantly ) but with modern day refinements and reliablity.

Was just wondering how pagoda owners and fans would react to someone creating a totally modern version of our car?

Personally, I would guess that you would lose character and the small idiosyncrasies you get only by driving a true classic, but if someone gave me a modern day pagoda I would certainly find space for it in my garage (alongside an original pagoda of course!!)

That car is a very nice interpretation of the E-Type. The Top Gear video referred to in the article must be this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66owXqZaexs Quite a nice video too!

On the Pagoda side Mechatronik does something similar, fitting a modern drive gear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-f2Uk7ffrc

I did my own, fitting a Mercedes 5.6L V8 and a 5 speed manual transmission, the story is here: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=15521.0 I find it a much better car than original as it is much more powerful, better balanced, more comfortable at highway speed, returns a better mpg and is easier and cheaper to maintain. I built it with long distance holydays trips in mind, inspired by the GT concept of the sixties and early seventies.

Without going to these extremes, Pagodas can be greatly improved in terms of reliability and ease of use in today's traffic conditions by a rear end swap to a 3.27 ratio and an electronic ignition. fitting an overdrive 5 speed transmission instead of swapping the rear end is a bit more involved but an even better solution in my view.

In the same spirit of the Eagle E-Type and the Mechatronik Pagoda, there is also the Singer Porsche 911 which seems to be quite a nice car too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJQ4hQSusjE

Wow, that's actually pretty cool and dimensionally much closer to the original car than so many of the current retromobiles...

In the same vein, a new interpretation of the Jaguar E Type, designed in Switzerland and to be built in Britain:
