230SL Handbrake Boot/Cover?

Hi Everyone,
for other reasons I have had to remove the seats from the above vehicle. With that, it occurred to me that perhaps a handbrake lever boot/cover might be missing. The car has been retrimmed at an earlier stage and now with the seats out it looks a little exposed. Granted the seats do cover a fair whack of it when installed, but it looks a little odd. What say the collective knowledge base on this originality point.

Not sure about the 230's but my 280 never had a cover on the hand brake.

never saw one on any model. Obviously individual creations may exist. At one point people were keen on putting leather covers on their steering wheels, so everything goes...

I agree there doesn't appear to be a cover, however there is a small rubber boot at the top of the handbrake lever which is often missing as on my 280SL.  Look at http://www.sls-hh-shop.de/en/230-280SL-W113/42-Brakes/42-d-Handbrake/?force_sid=obnupbelos2234nocs0t71p8m4?_artperpage=10&listorderby=oxstock&listorder=desc, part no 26.  I am going to get one of these when I dismantle my hand brake lever and paint.

Hey Thanks for the prompt replies. I'm pretty comfortable with the notion there wasn't one fitted from factory given the replies so far. So I won't be rushing to add one at this point. Cheers.

 In looking at this picture taken when my car was 6 months old, there appears to be a rubber "sleeve" between the chrome plated portion and painted portion of the hand brake. I went out and looked at the car now and it is no more as it must have "disintegrated" over the years. Looks like a short length of the right size rubber tubbing would do the trick.

I think Tom has given us a photo which shows all however on the SLS site the picture part no (# to americans) is 26, click on this and the art no is Art.Nr.:242079.  I am not pushing SLS ahead of any other supplier.

Well, just to add a little flavor. My car has a MB-Tex vinyl e-brake cover. It has been on the car at least since we got it in 1979. Very likely it was added by a PO. I would have thought it original until this thread. It sure is stitched nicely and appears to be the same vinyl original to the car. Someone did add my unique shift gate and knob so whomever it was had decent style... I like it and think the brake looks very "uncovered" without it, if you ask me...

Today I checked the rubber sleeve on my handbrake and was pleased to notice that mine has one. However, if this wasn't said in the initial message that it is made of rubber, I would firmly believe that it is metal, as it has a solid and cold feel. Probably with time the rubber kind of solidified and became rigid with metallic touch...
